I know, I’m Working on It.

I took a mental health break, but am back and working on it. I can feel your impatience from here.

Should have pictures and everything by tomorrow. (It’s been busy for sure)

In the meantime, actual conversation just this AM between me and Dave.

Scene-

Lying in bed (not X rated or anything like that-keep reading and get your mind out of the gutter-and seriously if you are having thoughts like that about me and Dave-go turn yourself in to the appropriate authorities right now because that’s just a little disturbing)

Cat is scratching like hell at the door (Who else-Jack) because he heard the coffee pot go off and thinks he is now dying of starvation because it’s morning time to eat and has to come in the bed room to waste away before our very eyes so we can wallow in our guilt for starving him in the first place.

Me-(as Dave gets up) What are you doing?

Dave-I am beating the cat with a shoe.

Me-You can’t beat the cat with a shoe. The cat is 5 times bigger than my shoe anyway.

Dave-I’ll scare him with the shoe

Me-(insert sarcasm font here) Brilliant.

Dave gets back in bed as cat continues to scratch on door

Me-I’m letting him in here before he shreds the door and we have to hang a blanket over the opening because we will never get around to getting a new door. And that’s just a slippery slope to hanging beads as a door and it’s all downhill from there.

Jack-in room now, on bed, off bed, back on bed, in face, off face, on Dave, quickly off Dave then by the bathroom and-then-

Hork, hork hork, LOUD HORK, Deep hork, three mercy horks.

Me-Holy crap, do you think anything is coming out?

Dave-How could it not be?

Jack-Embarrassed silence

Me-Jeez, is it over yet? That was wild.

Dave-I wish I could get that as my ringtone.

I’d call him every hour.

Missin’ the BeeGees

So Robin Gibb passed away on Sunday. Sigh. The BeeGees-I still have the vinyl. Not the Saturday Night BeeGees but the earlier BeeGees. Loved me a little Words, or Gotta Get a Message to You, but especially  this one

I just love this one. I think it must reflect the teenage angst I was feeling from my snotty rich kid high school experience. Anyway, I think Robin was quite talented from singing to songwriting to composing. So, RIP Robin Gibb.

There were a few deaths this week. Donna Summer also passed away, and I was a bit of a fan of some of her stuff too

Cause when I’m bad, I’m so so bad……

When I blog and I am looking for song clips, Dave is forced to listen to the same song over and over and over until I finally find the right one gets to preview them. When I was doing Revel, Alien Style he was almost driven insane by the high pitched reveling. So you can imagine the crazy dance moves he was bustin’ listening to various renditions of Donna Summer doing disco.

Oh, and speaking of Dave, there was another death this week. Dave’s personal hero, Eugene Polley has passed away. Eugene Polley you ask? Who might that be? Well my friends, he was the inventor of the remote control. Or, as the Sacremento Bee puts it-

The inventor of the first wireless remote control for television, Zenith's Gene Polley,  was called everything from the founding father of the couch potato to the czar of zapping to the beach boy of channel surfing.

Brian Williams on the Nightly News said something about being responsible for the evolution of the large behind. Which I sort of agree with. Dave feels a there should be a moment of silence, so, hold on while he mutes the TV.

In other news I finished binding the giant quilt yesterday. Seriously, do you think this is why it takes me twice as long to do anything around here?

IMG_0354

Jack has to have his big body in everything I do. So annoying.

We have a birds nest under the deck. We had one last year but for some reason the robins who built it abandoned it mid stream They left two eggs in it. I think that there may have been some loudness out there last spring when they were first starting out (in other words, we left one of the boys here during a weekend away and the next thing we know the robins have evacuated-never a good sign)

I wasn’t really sure there was a working nest although I was seeing a lot of robin activity around the deck and yard.

IMG_0355

The real giveaway, however, was this-

IMG_0361

Multiply this picture by 15 minutes and there you have it.

She is looking at the babies (and the parents feeding the babies) through the slats, and this is what she is seeing-

IMG_0363

Babies.

We always seem to have some type of babies around in the spring.

Remember these babies last spring?

DSC00780

They didn’t come back this year. That was kind of a worrisome thing, what with the dogs and cats sniffing out the nest in the ground. Even Jack was stressed over it.

DSC00760

At least the birds are out of reach.

Oh, Cora went to Disney the beginning of May and had her dreams come true by meeting all the princesses, and telling them she loved them.

And did I mention that Blane and Cody are here for the week? So I have 4 pictures of Cora in the blog. Apparently she gets top billing. I mean really, what is cuter than that?

There was an eclipse of the sun last week. We didn’t see it. Just sayin’ there was one. Might have been Saturday. Or not. Like I say, we didn’t see it. People said it happened though. So I guess.

We did have a nice sunrise a week or so ago, and I captured it here.

IMG_0349

And so the sun rises over the tranquil farms, neighborhoods, and hillbilly trampolines of St Charles once again.

The Plants have been Planted

Well, most of them anyway. I ran for 2 hours a 7 minutes yesterday and then tried to plant a bunch of plants that Dave bought for Mother’s Day. Which also happened to be yesterday.

DSC00437

Here’s my mother and Grampa too.

Anyway, I was really struggling with the old trowel after that run although I am not really sure why. Scientifically speaking, I think it had to with not having peanut butter on my pancakes in the morning.

But I did manage to get the front beds done. The perennials are already blooming. The additions were little petunia’s, marigolds, and some red spear like things. I have no idea.

 IMG_0345 IMG_0346  IMG_0341

The blooming flowers are pretty too.

IMG_0347IMG_0343

These are the worlds smallest daffodils. Dave planted them. I don’t quite get it but there it is.

I have almost finished my sister-in-law’s quilt. All that’s left is binding.

IMG_0340

This picture was a little blurry up close. My apologies. Does it look familiar? Yep. Did the same one a couple or so years ago. Only it took less time then. Not sure what happened.

Lastly, I got a new iron, kickin’ it dry cleaner style. I know, it’s a ridiculous toy. But check out the box-(again my apologies to the audience for blurriness)

IMG_0338

That is totally what I am talkin’ about.

Tuesday, May 8, 2012

No really, thank-YOU.

I mean it. Your patience has been noted.

So let’s get right down to it. I am serious, let the blogging begin.

Oh, I almost buried the lead with Grampa, but fortunately, thanks to the miracle of pictures on my 8 gig external hard drive, I remembered that before last Sunday was last Saturday and I was at Yarnover in the cities breathing in some fabulous fibery fun. I took a picture of my fabulous silk spindling teacher, the famous Amy Singer. She was the best teacher, next to Denny McMillan, for spindling. Loved it.

IMG_0304

After this morning class, Barb and I went out and had delicious sushi.

002

Ok, that is seriously good food.

We also went to the MOA, although this was not my idea (Barb!!!) She had this delusion of going to MOA, running in and getting some eye pencils. HA! It took 20 minutes just to find a parking spot.

Sarah and MOA

The frozen yogurt almost made it worthwhile.

OK, now we are on Sunday, and on Sunday Grampa arrived. I don’t think I took a picture of Grampa arriving though. I think because I had to get a gate pass and I was afraid to bring the big camera. (And I do mean big-like big ass purse big). Although I do have a camera on my phone. Which I used when Grampa left. Wow.

Wait, so I picked up Grampa at the gate last Sunday afternoon. It went down like clockwork.

We gave him two days of rest, then started on what will go down in infamy as Mayo Marathon days.

Started here on Wednesday and ended here on Friday.

012

We went to cardiology, dermatology, psychology, neurology, vascular and general internal med-and all the tests and consults included therein. Personally, I was a little worn out.

And I wasn’t even the patient.

So, whilst I was at Mayo I took a few snaps of the props.

004 008

That’s a poured glass sculpture and blown glass bulby thing.

And the view

011 010

Peace Plaza and the rest of Rochester.

And after all that, Grampa was very healthy for an old guy! Just a few things that can be fixed with a few appointments at home. That was good news. We drank a toast on Friday (and Thursday, and Wednesday….)

And Saturday I ran the Spring Classic-a 15K (9.3 mi). I might have gone a wee bit faster without the Friday night toasting-but hey, I felt good.

Start

IMG_0309

to Finish

IMG_0321

Dave passed the time with the camera, which means I don’t have enough blog space to post all the pictures. I’ll spot the best

IMG_0317 IMG_0313 IMG_0315

He was at soldiers field, by the way. A bit depressing for my happy little blog world.

But this’ll cheer you up, because I WON!! Yes I did. First place in my age division. (OK, it was a small field, but still, I WON!) AND, I was the dang happiest winner there. Because I feel, that if you win something, anything, you should be happy. Gracious, but happy. OK, maybe a little obnoxious, but happy. Everyone in races always walks up to get their medals like it’s the walk of shame.

Not ME.

 IMG_0323 IMG_0324

IMG_0325

Seriously. I am friggin’ happy and the crowd is with me. Look at my fan high fiving me. It is the BEST.

Ok. So after I got over the high, we drank some more toasts and Sunday we hiked up and over to Northfield and had lunch by the raging Cannon River

IMG_0328

with my nephew Alex.

IMG_0329

I told them “look at me, I’m taking a picture” and Alex was all over that with his instantaneous Vogue poses. Blane…not so much.

Here’s the three boys

IMG_0330

We laid off the toasts as Dave and I were in acute liver failure by about this time. And I was completely bloated by eating bread pudding drowning in cream. I had to lay down later.

Monday it was time for Grampa to go home. I took him back to the airport and put him on this airplane.

Grampa's plane

It was about the nicest day of the whole time Grampa was here.

We sure miss him since he’s been gone. But happy he is back home, dozing on the couch.

While he was here, Dave sat in a different chair, and when he got up, I noticed something was different. There, in the chair, like the mark of Zorro, was a single pillow.

And that’s just the way it happened.

No Blog is good Blog (and this one is pretty bad)

Jeesh. It’s that time of week and I have no blog. None. May I offer up some excuses? Um, I didn’t have one free day in April, no not one. Grampa arrived on Sunday and last night, when I should have been blogging, I was drinking Grampa wine which kicked my ass all the way from here to there and back. I really shouldn’t drink that stuff.

But I promise to put something up tomorrow or the next day. I really do. Oh, and did I miss the 1st year anniversary of Will and Kate? REALLY? Dang it, now that just fries me becauseI have so few occasions to wear my tiara, and that was one of them.

So to entertain, I’ll relate an actual convo that Dave and I had a few weeks ago. Just to let you know that nothing  ever really changes around here….

Dave-(watching House Hunters) Hey-what’s that guy have on his head?

Me-Oh, what-Don’t they call that a yarmulke?

Dave-It’s on his head, not his arm.

And that, my friends, is how we here offend the Jews, without even trying. (Although you’d be shocked to hear how we offend the Catholics)

Grandest of Openings

Last week was the grand opening of the new Pine Needles Quilt and Sew. It even has a new name.

It was quite the event and we were all there-lined up in front of the food.

IMG_0252

IMG_0256

Our leaders Marcia and Suzie

IMG_0251

Connie T needs to be added in there too (in the purple shirt and black cardi in the group pictures)-she is fearless leader #3 and an all around go to girl (and the person who ALWAYS puts my name first on the retreat and SB mystery quilt lists-you know what I’m talkin’ about).

It was a wonderful opening-seemed like a long time in coming. There was a line to the door at 5 PM when the store opened, and I had a little PTSD flashback of the 70% sale. Oh God. Fortunately it was nothing like the 70% sale, and a good thing because I was not nearly medicated enough for that kind of thing.

Fans and husbands sent flowers (not my husband but some husbands….)

Food was ready

IMG_0248

And the new store was unveiled.

On Friday my friend Mary K and I went to see Kaye England do her thing. It was entertaining and I learned sooo much.

IMG_0262

Of course I couldn’t get a good picture of her, and I took a few. But I like this one with one of her quilts up behind her.

IMG_0267

This is one of her embroidery designs. A little cow. I just can’t imagine why I was drawn to it. (RIP my little Twinkles…..)

The linky to her website is here-you should take a look.

I finished my Oh Delilah by SheKnits the day the shop opened. It’s for Marcia. I am working on matching footies. It’s very cozy.

IMG_0269

My friend Jill came down on Saturday to the shop and we had dinner, which was highly pleasant after the busy week.

Sunday was a sunny funny day. I ran 10 miles. That was the funny part.

The cats partook of the sun.

IMG_0274 IMG_0277 IMG_0281

……and dig the hillbilly’s trampoline. Doesn’t it just add to the ambiance?

IMG_0279

Next weekend is more fiber-otherwise known as Yarnover. Sweeet!

Stay tuned-film at 11.
