January ‘10

Today I am continuing on my resolution to finish up old projects. Last week I finished a surprise gift quilt, Laura did the back and off it went to Pine Needles for quilting.

This is what I did today

This is the center panel from the Block of the Month from last year.

I did a bad centering job for sure. I was getting frustrated by the fact that there were too many pieces to appliqué. And there is supposed to be appliqué on the boarders. Um, don’t think so. At least not to the extent that the instructions say. Maybe a few flowers. But first I have to tack all this down. That should keep me busy for the next couple of weeks.

I have received several  baby pictures recently.

Jack's B'party 003

Here’s Payton. Still as cute as ever, our little porcelain girl. Kristin hardly ever brings her around dang it. I guess I’ll have to increase the pressure.

008

This is Lyndsey’s Morgan. Getting ready for Thanksgiving, she says. This kid cracks me up. Every time I see her with a smile I have to laugh, not because she is funny looking, but she is such an imp. It just makes me happy to see her.

016

Now seriously, aren’t you just getting a little chuckle out of how happy this girl is?

But last, and not in any way least, remember this?

Laura with our little Twinkles? Number 1 Calf in 2009?

It all happened like this. We were talking one day before Christmas, and of course Twinkles came up in the conversation (seriously, if I could keep this cow in my garage I would so do it). Anyway, Twinkles was the topic and we starting thinking (always a bad idea between Laura and I) and…, well….,, this is what happened-

Twinkles with antlers

I KNOW it! Isn’t she just the best cow EVER???? Laura had quite a time getting her to pose perfectly. There was some problem with Twinkles not quite getting into the spirit, and Twinkles room mate trying to figure out why sucking on Laura’s pants wasn’t the same as sucking on a bottle. You get the idea. But look at that little Christmas calf. We have been discussing putting some jewelry on her next……

I tell ya, there isn’t much that is going to top this in 2010.

Happy Birthday and I’m done.

Dave’s birthday is actually tomorrow. But, because we had the pizza and cake on Friday, well, we celebrated on Friday.

I ordered a cake from Daube’s in Rochester. Seriously delicious cake. It is football decorated because this seems to be the year of the football cakes.

DSC00973

Yep, that’s Green Bay on there. Cool, isn’t it?

We put a few candles on it, but not the total of Dave’s birthday because that would have covered the whole cake and taken forever to light.

DSC00975

Dave blew them all out. He looks a little bloated there doesn’t he? Hmmm. Weird.

DSC00976

I didn’t have very many ideas for Dave’s birthday, and he didn’t give me much to go on.

He wanted a file cabinet so he got one of those.

DSC00982

Otherwise, socks and t-shirts.

DSC00979

Boring. I have already started my birthday list. I actually keep one all year, in case I need a quick idea for a gift for me.

Last weekend we went out and braved the after Christmas crowds because Target was having a sale on the shelving I wanted, and for a much better price than I saw on line.

I wanted these shelves because I want to use up all the old fabric I have, but because it’s in Totes I can’t find it. I also can’t stand looking at the Totes anymore. It is driving me crazy.

DSC00945

Doesn’t that look messy?

So Dave put these together.

DSC00950 DSC00946

Then I spent all afternoon sorting and putting away.

Now doesn’t this look better?

DSC00952 DSC00951

I can see my table again

DSC00953

That big stack on the left is my project stack that I was going to finish last year and am resolving to finish this year.

The shop quilt, Log Cabin in the Stars, is done. Seriously done. I hope it quilts flat. Those girls should have known better than to give me a quilt that has so many points and blocks and pieces. Jeepers.I am still pointless at heart.

So, on Saturday I finished up the corner blocks and the outer boarder. See what I mean? That is ONE corner.

DSC00957

And a billion of these made up the borders.

DSC00958

And viola, I missed two football games today but I got ‘er done.

DSC00989

DSC00987

I finished the block of the month too. Actually I finished it over a week ago but the quilt has sucked the life out of me. All I have to do is sew the rest of the little sweater on the block. I have done the upper part.

DSC00959

I have to say I am not too happy with it. It doesn’t look very good in real life.

When I was taking pictures look what happened-

DSC00956

See that blurry thing in the upper right-

DSC00960

Yep, the cat-again . She is pretending like she doesn’t even know I’m taking a picture. But she really does.

Martha sent me Ice Queen, a lacey head thing. I tried to take pictures of it on me, but the self portrait thing did not go well.

DSC00965

Blurry. But you get the picture of what it is.

DSC00966

This is lying flat.

DSC00970

This is close up-see the lace and the beads?

Very cool.

So that is the week. Oh, there was New Years Eve and Day in there, welcome to 2010! And lots of bowl games. Was sad that Oregon lost.  Am looking forward to some NFL playoff action, especially from the Packers. I can’t believe I even root for them…But now that Brett Farve is gone it’s lots easier to be a fan.

Happy New Year!

Christmas oh-nine

Christmas came to our house and it was very enjoyable and merry.

On Christmas Eve we had a big ham dinner. We had this on Christmas Eve because Cody had to work on Christmas afternoon. Or so we thought.

Here we are. And before the comments in your heads start, yes I do have the same sweatshirt on as I had on at Thanksgiving. It happens to be a favorite for fit and comfort reasons. And no, I have not been wearing it non stop since Thanksgiving, and yes, it has been washed, a couple of times since then. OK?

P1010271

The boys were somewhat embarrassed that the Christmas picture should be exactly like the Thanksgiving picture (since when do they care?). They also think it’s funny that there are just the 4 of us (plus Trixie) as families around here tend to be big and live close together. I kinda like our cozy little Christmas, although it would be nice to have the graama’s around, or maybe a sister or two. But barring that, it was pretty nice and we had a great meal.

P1010274

Dave cooked the ham, but I made mashed potatoes (both white and sweet mixed together), veggie and some cresent rolls (those are pretty easy really-open roll, put on sheet, cook). Delicious.

The dogs waited patiently for leftovers

P1010275

P1010278

They are a blur of gluttony.

Here’s a couple of miscellaneous pictures…

P1010277

This one cracks me up-It’s like the little cat picture in the background is spying on Blane.

P1010268

The next day looked like this

P1010279

Rain and snow and ice, then some more snow with some rain. Back and forth. We did not shovel the driveway, that is for sure.

P1010282

Cody, suffering from low grade fever and excruciating sore throat for the last two days called in sick to work.

Blane is still not into the pictures much

P1010280

We ate delicious French toast and then opened our presents

P1010290

Of course, I didn’t get pictures of the actual opening, nor do I have pictures of the presents, but they were all good.

I did get a picture of Trixie watching what was going on

P1010291

And the cat hiding

P1010292

Cody and Blane took off, in the snow, to Urgent Care to treat Cody’s sore throat, which turned out to be strep. Merry Christmas.

The rest of the morning was spent doing this

P1010294

P1010295

Yes, the 80 blocks are done and laid out. I started cutting the boarder blocks and may actually be done in a week or two. Trixie ran through the blocks dragging her blanket behind, so this is actually the second laying out of the blocks. I won’t repeat what I said when the unfortunate blanket incident occurred.

My iPod died and our cable downstairs is malfunctioning, by the way. Electronics did not have a Merry Christmas. But we still get the Packer game channel for Sunday.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas-on to the New Year.

He’s In!

Cody called me today while at was at work on my day off (that is so wrong on so many levels-but I digress). He told me he wasn’t going to take any more classes to try to get into medical school.

Disappointed, I figured that he had gotten the final rejection letter.

But NO! He said he wasn’t going to take more classes because-

Wait for it…..

He got accepted to Touro today. I about flipped. You’d have thunk I got accepted. He was so happy and I was so happy and we are still happy.

So I guess that handsome suit had some magic after all.

It seems only yesterday that Blane was trying to strangle him

Or that he was the happy baby on the couch…

So again, I present to you, the future of medicine

DSC00157

Wait, that can’t be right.

Once again, I present the future of medicine
