Two Jobs and a Funeral

Well, it looks like we made it through. January was quite a month for sure. Of course, I traveled to Tacoma and back. That’s always a treat. I arrived on Saturday evening and did what I do—which was watch some football playoffs. I thought maybe, just maybe, the Packers could pull out a victory in the OT. Sadly, no. I was at Nina’s house and we were sort of going back and forth between a movie and the game. I missed Hail Mary #2 but knew something was happening when my phone blew up with texts. When my sister texts me about a game I know it’s gotta be good.

I tuned in just in time to see the opponent win. Sigh.

The next day was no better. I ran in the rain (and it was raining….almost all week long….or at least when we had events like a trip to Seattle or a funeral). On the other days it got almost sunny.

Either way, Sunday’s game was also a great disappointment when Seattle lost to the Panthers. Again—thought maybe a comback was possible….but no.

We started the week cleaning out Grampa’s apartment. That was a treat. I can’t express how annoying it truly was. Considering that we didn’t have much say over how it was done and there seemed to be some feeling that we had to be at the mercy of someone I don’t particularly care for. So, for everyone who knows me, I can be polite but I don’t bow to people who have treated me poorly and have outright disrespected my mother, and in some cases, Grampa. I guess other family members don’t see it quite that way. (In my family, I’m the “Which one on these is not like the others…..”)

That being said, the week wasn’t really too pleasant. Except for time I spent with my family--

I don’t think I got a picture of Blane and Melanie actually posing together. Maybe because when we went to Seattle it was so pouring down rain there wasn’t much chance to pose.

We stayed on a hotel on the water which was pretty sweet. That was probably the most enjoyable of all the things. I love a hotel.

We hung at the Spar a few times cause it was right up the street

The funeral was Saturday and, as was the theme of the trip, it rained like hell. We stood outside under our umbrellas in the damp cold and put grampa in the columbarium with Mother. I wonder if she appreciated that? Eventually they will go back to Portland to Riverview and be buried with Mother’s family. I hope they give him a hard time. I don’t have resentment issues, really.

During the whirlwind of fun I was having, I accepted a new position at Mayo. After much thought I realized that I have no ties to the area anymore, it’s getting more difficult working remotely, and I’m not going to move forward in my job as I once thought I was. Soooo—I not only went to a funeral, I accepted a new job and resigned from the old one. I do know how to live it up.

Anyway—best part of the funeral dinner was the dessert--

Cause nothing says funeral dinner like a football cake and cupcakes. Don’t judge.

We’re back home now. Cats were very happy--

 IMG_1730

Beta was happy and thanks so much to Laura for taking Puddy and Beta—two worst babysitting candidates EVER.

We ordered this for the cats

Right? Cheap from Wayfair-free shipping…..

Sadly, Beta is fading fast. He likely won’t see March but he will see the Superbowl with us.

Poor old dog. He is 13 now, his birthday was Feb 1st. He didn’t care much.

I think that’s it. One more trip on the 13th, Stitches West on the 18th. Can’t wait—Jeepers. I better get ready-I have to have my homework and supplies in place. Oh, and even better is it’s the end of the quarter in grad school so I don’t have any work to do while I’m gone. Soooo happy.

Today, however, is looking like a pretty good day.

It Was A Christmas Miracle….after Christmas

Well, I thought I’d throw in a quick post before I leave for Tacoma and the sadness of  Grampa’s funeral.

That won’t be so much fun.

But last weekend was fun—it was football games like no other.

The Seahawks were back to play at TCF Bank Stadium for round two, only this was a playoff game.

And then the Packers went to the house in DC and, well, this happened…..

I thought the Seahawks would have a bigger win and I thought the Packers might squeak by.

Who knew?

In the meantime, I got so excited over football that my rotary cutter slipped up over the ruler and sliced right into the side of my finger. The cat scratched my face and over all I’m a little worse for wear.

It’s cold here…

We’re used to it though it does sort of put a damper on running outside.

It makes for pretty sunsets in the bare trees--

I hope I didn’t forget to mention Dave’s birthday on the 4th. Not only that, but he gets full SS bennies at age 66. I, however, do NOT get full bennies until age 66 AND 10 months. I’m pretty sick about it. Therefore he doesn’t get much airtime for his day. Suffice to say there was beer, pizza, cake, and football. What a day.

That’s it really, we  all took a deep breath and we are travelling on to the next thing. Which is the funeral. Which we didn’t expect. I thought I’d have a quiet few months, save up some money, finish the next quarter of school. Well, I guess the saying is true—you make plans and God laughs.

However—when all is said and done-

The Things That Happen

We had a lot of busy things go on before and during Christmas

Blane and Melanie and Dave and I all got on a bus, went to Minneapolis, and watched the Seahawks beat the Vikings. It was so fun that I can’t even describe it. The Mayo bus thing is the way to go. Of course, we were at TCF Banks Stadium, which is the U of M stadium while the new Vikings stadium is being built. It’s small so the seats weren’t bad. Even though we were in the second to last row corner end zone. Still….

Straight up Seahawk Fans!

Although we thought we might be killed, we only had one heckler. Mainly because there was a LOT of Seahawk fans in attendance

The day was somewhat chilly but no wind. My feet were freezing but otherwise I was ok. The beer helped too…..

Go Hawks--

DSC01276_thumb1

Like I said, it was the best day. We got home and had some pizza and just enjoyed the whole experience.

Dave and I saw Lorie Line on December 23rd. We saw her last year. She was good as always--

DSC01285_thumb1

I think her Christmas CD this year is one of her best.

We got a tree-and put a decoration on it. Oddly, I don’t think I have a picture of the tree decorated……As we were taking it down yesterday I commented on that. Oh well. Believe me when I say it was pretty. And messy.

Everyone showed up for Christmas--

IMG_3461_thumb6

That’s the awkward Christmas picture---

IMG_3463_thumb

Dave got some sweet Packer Gear-

IMG_3466_thumb

And as usual we drank beer and played a game. Blane and Cody had a Cribbage war going on…

IMG_3467_thumb

We had a nice time. Blane left early Sunday so he could watch the Seahawks lose.

We stayed home and watched both the Seahawks and Packers lose.

Cody went to the cities and stayed with Ilan overnight so he could get to the airport at oh dark thirty. I hurried home cause we got about a foot of snow in the driveway overnight. Which we shoveled this AM starting at around 5ish. All these people crying cause there’s no snow. Gawd. Well, there’s some snow now.

The other part of December isn’t so happy really-

My father passed away rather suddenly the week before Christmas. He was out at some parties and was coming home, struggled a little, then lost consciousness and couldn’t be revived. He didn’t suffer, and he was 92 years old. He hadn’t been in the best health but we didn’t expect it quite so quickly.

So if my Christmas blog doesn’t seem as cheery as it should, it’s because it’s tempered with that weird feeling that something happened, and everything has changed.

Funeral is January 23rd and we will all fly out then. There’s not much more to say at this point.

See you both on the flip side….

Blogger--

Have a post ready to go but once again Live Writer and Blogger are not getting along. This is frustrating to say the least and I guess what I need to do is look for another blogging site. Not sure if it's the crappy Windows or the crappy Blogger or what.

Will update when I can.....

ETA--I found the answer. One has to download a new version of LiveWriter. Someday I'm gonna get my own webpage.......

It’s not about me, but mostly it is

I sort of forgot to add an event that happened before I went to OK. Between Seattle and Cali and Oklahoma was Blane’s 31st birthday.

Jeepers. I did remember at the time. I didn’t have the pictures uploaded though and that’s my memory jogger. Does that work as an excuse? Who cares? Works for me.

Blane and Melanie and the gang (well, not Kitten but Roki, Cody, and Lil Ava Puss) all came down for celebration.

The other Lil Puss--

That is one cute lil Puss. And sweet. Not like some--

IMG_1591

We got a cake from Daubes that weighed about 5 pounds.

IMG_3457

Sooo delish.

It was a beautiful day and I captured sunsets and sunrises--

I ordered my Christmas cards today, almost have all my presents done….almost…and just have to send and ship. Christmas tree comes today which should be a whole new fun toy for Biscuit.

The whole gang will be present-Blane, Melanie, Cody, and us. (We are missing Marel but she’s bypassing us for the east coast!)

This weekend is the Vikings and Seattle. We will be in attendance. It’s turned into an important game for each team so it should be good. Maybe we can get protection from other Seattle fans…or not.

Stay tuned.
