Superbowl Sunday, Birthdays, and Mystery Quilts.

This month is starting out with a bang for sure.

First of all, I finished a sock. The travelling rose sock from last years RSC. Yes, a year ago. But I’m getting there.

While I was taking pictures of the sock, I got all distracted by the fun things around me.

Again, Elvin was paying close attention.

I don’t understand why she has to look so irritated half the time.

Then the birds started distracting me.

A little blurry.

I decided to snap the big bird.

He wasn’t really happy about it so I took another one.

He has the evil evil glowy eye. I was frightened. I studied the picture and decided that he needed another chance to show off his gentle loving side.

This is it. I guess he didn’t want his picture taken any more. And he really doesn’t have a loving gentle side.

Cody had a 23rd birthday. He didn’t want anything but money to pay for his upcoming trip to Puerto Vallarta with his future room mates, Seth and Kate.

Interestingly, although I was trying to take pictures of Cody in all his 23 year old glory, I kept getting interruptions in the background.

Ok, does anyone detect a disturbing theme in that montage?

The last one is Cody and his friend Dylan, whom he has known since high school and loves to play computer games as much as Cody.

I’m reminded of the Wizard of Oz “Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain….”

We had a delicious Coldstone Cake. Holy cow.

Cookie dough and ice cream. What could be better?

I finished another quilt. Well, it was done a while ago but I finally bound it and put it on a bed.

That is fun. I think it was a kit I got at Pine Needles. I also know it was the one where I put one of the border strips on upside down.

At work we found the most unique hard hat EVER!

It’s a cowboy hard hat! It caused endless hours of observation. E-mails went back and forth about this. And the cherry picker too, since it broke down a couple of times.

Simply amazing. We’d like to discuss it with him but he is very elusive. Or simply trying to avoid the crazy Public Health employees (ok, Laura and I) who endlessly stalk him.

Lastly, but not leastly, it was Superbowl Sunday and you know what that means. One of my two most favorite events in the world-

Superbowl Sunday Mystery Quilt at Pine Needles in Decorah. And this year did not disappoint.

First of all they quilted up the Log Cabin in the Stars. And that thing is huge. But it looks terrific. They even got it to quilt flat. Miracles.

There it is on display. I can’t believe I made it.

We worked on our mystery squares-

and we came up with these-

If you have never done a mystery quilt-the best part is seeing the differences in all the fabric choices and how they go together. Because you never know. And that is the best part.

The finished product looks like this

I love my quilt shop! Thanks to Marcia and Suzie for another great event.

And that is my busy week and why I couldn’t blog until today instead of Sunday.

Oh, and Happy Birthday to my sister Debbie. Tried to call and got no answer. Some lame excuse about her phone not being near her. Hope she had a good one getting another year older than me.

I went out there once or twice to talk with the hard hats. The red hard hat is my husband, Ryan and his buddy, Rich is the one with the cowboy hat hard hat. Rich is actually the husband of Kirsten Lehmann from Sunrise Cottages 2 and 3. Small world, huh?
