It is Spring, right?

The calendar says spring, but I say still a little chilly.

Again, this week was filled with work and home and not much else. I went to a good conference on personality disorders. The speaker was interesting and I learned a lot about the different personality types-borderline, histrionic, schizoaffective, all the bright and shiny DSM Axis II issues.

I did some sewing this weekend. I was going to get to Pine Needles today (my Monday off, sweeeet) but since Marcia had a dentist appointment and wasn’t going to be there, I slacked off. I was trying to finish up the Schlep bags for her. I thought I could make a large and small, but in the end didn’t know what the heck I could possibly have been thinking because I only had enough fabric for one bigger bag, and not enough for handles. So I am improvising handles with the leftovers of what I have. This is what they are looking like so far

The top is inner, bottom is outer bag. I think. We’ll see.

I am on the toe of the socks.

P1010293 (4)

If you click on this and make it bigger, I am pretty sure you can see the cat hair on them. Extra warmth and cushiness.

I also finished the ruffle on the wrap me up, and am picking up for the next block.

P1010290 (4)

My friend on Ravelry, Llamalady, aka Barbara, sent me some sweet hand dyed, hand plied home grown wool. Simply lovely.

P1010286 (3)

That is a picture of her little lamb on the front and Barbara in the back. I don’t know why there is a paperclip back there, or the fact that I put the yarn on white fabric, yet shot the red pool table. Hmmm. Please concentrate on the yarn because it is heavenly. Plus she sent a couple of extra bits. How nice.

So that was my good week. I have to say that last week Jack was really getting into the blog.

P1010280 (3)

See, he loves it. And that little square is the special cat quilt square that all the normal sized cats fit on. However……he doesn’t even fit on the pull out that the other cats sit on, his large body has to be half on the desk so he can gaze upon my computer, which coincidently is on the blog page.

One day, last week, we came home to this

Look at Cat lurking in the background

P1010284 (4)

Now you might think that we just leave our package of Q-Tips out willy nilly where anyone could just take them and chew up a few, along with the box of saline solution and a few cold tablets. And you would be wrong. It was a complicated inter-species caper carried out with astonishing precision. The cat Elvin has learned how to open drawers. She opened the bottom bathroom drawer, thereby getting under the sink, where she could then exit by opening the cabinet door, leaving both the drawer contents AND the under sink contents exposed for certain dogs to sniff out. And really, wouldn’t they be smarter to chew up stuff away from their beds?

P1010285 (4)

Then again, maybe it wasn’t all the dogs’ fault……

Have a smashing week-

It’s Madness

March Madness that is. Dave didn’t do any brackets this year. He said he wasn’t invited. I love brackets….when someone else is doing them.

We are rooting for Wisconsin Badgers, of course.

Wisconsin heads to Sweet 16 with win over K-State, 70-65

Next up-Butler Thursday 3/24, at 8:57. Not sure of the time zone. Sweet.

I finished up the shop quilt this weekend.

P1010319

I like the cornerstones

P1010322

Had a little help

P1010317 (2)

Actually, Jack was up to no good earlier in the week too-look at this wreck of a craft area

P1010282 (3)

I seriously don’t think the lamp is supposed to be at that angle, with the purple carrier knocked over stretching out my sewing machine cords. No I don’t think so.

And when I was working on the quilt, I hung it over the chair and then noticed a strange bump in it.

P1010302

Why does it hang that way-see the bulge?

P1010302

Obvious-isn’t it?

P1010301 (2)

Because here’s the other side of things.

We have 1300 square feet of floor space, and my area is the most popular

P1010297 (2)

That would be over half the mammalian pet population gathered around my cutting table.

They then amused themselves around the sewing machines

P1010291 (3)

There’s one in the window.

This weekend was really nice, a beautiful Saturday.

The whole thing exhausted Trixie-

And it took Dave until Sunday afternoon to recover

I had some good nap pictures of Dave but he got all hissy so I had to delete them. Oh well. Maybe someday I’ll sneak them in somewhere…..

Happy Nap Time

It’s a Sunny Day

I’d love to say that I do so many exciting things that I barely have time to blog. But, I’d be lying. It was just an ordinary week around here.

I did get to Pine Needles for a little Serging last week.

P1010283 (2)

Meet my Serger. Oh look, it’s a Bernina. Shocker.

P1010281

Here’s our leader, Marcia, who is looking like that because I am making her send an e-mail to Connie to get the dates for retreat that I paid for a year in advance! Yep. She loved teaching our class because there were 3 of us and we were pretty darn good, as far as Serging goes. We were making log cabin blocks that were looking like this once they were put together

P1010280

Cool huh? I simply love going to a class at Pine Needles.

The weather and amount of light has taken a turn for the better. Well, it was better, then worse, now much better. But last week it was frosty, so I stopped on the road and took some pictures.

Here’s a farm. (Seriously Laura, you can skip this one, jeez….)

The frosty sunrise.

P1010290 (2)

I don’t know if I captured the essence or not. It was really quite remarkable. And a bit chilly.

This weekend I was trying to finish up a project because, when I was at Pine Needles, I picked up a couple of projects to do for them. So I was madly trying to get this thing done and I swear, I need my own building.

P1010295

P1010293 (2)

This does NOT help me. We have found that Jack has no fear of the squirt bottle, but is deathly afraid of the canned air. Just the sight of it sends him running. I don’t know why. Today I puffed at him with my own breath and it scared him a little. Hmmmm.

Oh, Martha sent a couple more pics from Vegas-I call these the “wind in the hair” series. I’ll bet there is a sophisticated math calculation that figures wind speed by how straight up one’s hair is blowing. Somewhat like this

IMG_0017

See what I mean?

IMG_0031

That is some serious hair blow. However, it sure was fun.

Now, off to work up some excitement for next week.

The Birthday Weekend

The birthday weekend started out innocently enough. I got up on Saturday, and relaxed a bit, until I noticed just a little problem in the vicinity of the sewing area.

P1010283

Look closely-

P1010282

Notice the bag on the upper left. At one time, it was hanging up on the table fulfilling it’s life destiny as my scrappy garbage bag.

Until this

P1010286

I tried to get him to return to the scene of the crime but he was not about to admit guilt.

P1010287

He is not sorry, not at all.

I left Jack to consider his wrong doings and went to my knitting knit a long.

P1010289

Here’s a shot of our table. And a few energy treats to keep our strength up.

P1010290

Delicious.

After knitting, Dave and I did a little of this and that and returned home in time for lunch and a nap. Then it went just a little down hill.

About oh-beer-thirty we decided to eat. We had pizza and this delicious cake.

P1010292

Daube’s. Most delicious. Especially with ice cream.

I got a couple of shots of Jack, since after so many beers the morning episode of chaos had completely slipped my mind and I thought him a most handsome fellow.

P1010294 This is what he thinks of that People magazine he was looking at with crazy Charlie Sheen on the cover.

P1010305

These were the best pics of the night. Because, and I know I shouldn’t show you, this is what happened next.

I got the brilliant idea (fueled by some Bud Light Lime juice) to take some self portraits. So I set up the camera and we were off…..literally

P1010307

I didn’t like this at all. Why do I look so stupid-Plus, Dave was making me laugh, a little. Who knew this was about the best it was going to get?

P1010308

Look how Dave is acting like he isn’t doing anything but trying to take a picture. He was making noises and yelling and doing all sorts of distracting juvenile things that I, apparently, found hilarious.

So we kept going. I warn you, it is not pretty.

P1010311 P1010309 P1010310

P1010313

I just didn’t have the strength.

P1010312

See what I mean? God. So, after a few minutes of self composure and reflection, we were back to this.

P1010315

Seriously? I think it’s possible we should have quit while we were ahead. Whenever that was.

After this, we were exhausted and, if I recall, which I don’t, I think we just crawled off to bed.

Ah, another year older, but certainly none the wiser.
